The 9th Annual Body & Soil Conference was January 15 &16, 2010

The 2010 theme was “Culturing the Micro-Flora of the Body and the Soil”

The 2010 Presenters were: Jerry Brunetti Dr. Paul Hepperly Michael Martin Melendrez Theresa Vernon

6 – 8 pm Jerry Brunetti – Back for his fifth year to the Maui Body and Soil conference we are
fortunate to have him be a presenter again. A consummate communicator
of the connection to food as medicine and farm as farmacy. Will speak
to the collaborations of the various inhabitants in the human gut. Also
a soil consultant will give recommendations to those signing up with
soil analysis in early registration.
Theresa Vernon – Her first time presenting here she is a Licensed Acupuncturist,
Expert on treating through “Hair Analysis” chronic fatigue syndrome
along with metal toxicity to free up the ability for the body to uptake

Dr. Paul Hepperly – Doctor Paul Reed Hepperly is a Fulbright Scholar, Rachel Carson
Scientist and formerly the Director of Rodale Research and Senior
Scientist until 2009. He is a
world recognized expert in greenhouse gases and our food system and has
lectured extensively around the World on the underestimated
appreciation of Soil for managing Global Climate Change by positively
influencing Greenhouse Gas concentrations. He will talk on diverse
topics such as biochar, innovative compost methods, cover cropping,
tillage reduction, and the energy requirements of our food system. He
has over 35 years of success in agricultural research, management,
education and information outreach. He worked from 1999 toi 2002 with
organic ginger farmers on Big Island helping manage ginger bacterial
wilt before taking residence in North America to present.
Michael Martin Melendrez – His first time presenting here. Owner of Soil Secrets, Michael coined
the term soil food web in the seventies an expert on Humus building and
microbial inoculation and will speak to what we can do to grow our
soils to prepare for growing plants.

We will be having a demonstration on making Bio Char using coconut husk with this homemade retort shown in these photos. Notice the finish coconut husk made into bio-char, this material mixed with finished compost is very fractal in nature acting as a receptor site for microbes

I had the honor of speaking at the sustainability event in Paia organized by visionary Anthony Simmons Dec 12 what a beautiful day and receptive crowd that was there.
Ah Maui Nei!!!

Yesterday I was up on Steve Wilsons farm where we are going to hold our conference in Jan 16,17th. A Picture here shows his land being planted. Also we did a successful fire making coconut Bio Char. WOW just look at how beautiful this is, I was so excited at the results we got. We will be having this also as a demonstration at our conference next month,along with Jerry’s solar drier demonstrated today at the event. Be there and see the magic to this incredible soil building amendment,and focus of the suns energy in drying food.
